Councillor Julian Chang resigns from PNP
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — Councillor for the Savanna-la-Mar Division in Westmoreland, Julian Chang has resigned from the People’s National Party (PNP).
The PNP confirmed Chang’s resignation from the party in a release on Monday.
“We thank Councillor Chang for her service to the people of the Savanna-la-Mar Division and for her contributions during her time as a member of the People’s National Party. We wish her well in her future endeavours,” the party said.
The resignation follows sexual harassment allegations made earlier this year by Chang against Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Central, the PNP’s Dwayne Vaz. The claims have been refuted by Vaz.

Chang also claimed she was removed from her position as chair of the Savanna-la-Mar Division. However, attorneys for Vaz pushed back, saying elections were held and she was not nominated for the position.
The PNP stressed that in good faith and through its various internal structures, “considerable efforts” were made to address and mediate the concerns that had arisen between Chang and others within the constituency leadership.
“Those efforts were pursued diligently and with the genuine hope of resolution. Unfortunately, despite the commitment brought to that process, those efforts were ultimately not successful,” it said.
