A Betta Tomorrow to transform Mandela Park into a worship centre
First held in 2010, A Betta Tomorrow is slated to transform Mandela Park in Half-Way-Tree, St Andrew, into a worship centre on Friday, February 2.
The event, which is free to the public, is organised by gospel artiste Kevin Smith.
“A Betta Tomorrow made its debut in Montego Bay, St James, 14 years ago, and it has been to places such as Junction [in] St Elizabeth as well as the inner cities of the Corporate Area. The objective of the initiative is to bring the church to the street. Sometimes people are busy at work and school, and don’t have the time to be in church, so we bring the church to them,” Smith disclosed in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.
He added: “A Betta Tomorrow means that we have Jesus Christ in our lives and, if that is realised, then we will have better homes, better communities, and a better country.”
Smith shared what patrons can expect at A Betta Tomorrow.
“You can expect words through music, words through preaching. Words are powerful and, after all, we are words…expect us to stand against the rough derogatory music of this age in Jamaica that are putting down homes, the teaching of mothers and fathers and, most importantly, stands against the word of God. Derogatory music and slang like ‘people dead’, ‘a guy a spy dat fi die’, ‘man fi have nuff gal inna bundle’, ‘it nuh tek nuttin fi mek one phone call and a guy drop flat’, ‘mi a bad man’, we will attack these in Mandela Park because we are the light of the world, the Bible says ‘Evil prevail when good man do nothing,” said Smith.
Several performers and DJs from the gospel fraternity will be on hand to minister and share the word of God at A Betta Tomorrow. They include Kerron Ennis, Mr Jey, Ryan Mark, Goddy Goddy, Oban Melody, Denee, Johanna, and DJs Troy and Chinny.
The last staging of A Betta Tomorrow in Jamaica was held in January 2019 in Clarendon. Last July the event was held in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
Smith, who became a born-again Christian at the age of 19, has been recording gospel music since 2007.
Among his better-known songs are Don’t Sell Your Soul, Close to You with Jermaine Edwards and DJ Nicholas, God Steppa, and Upgrade.
His most recent single Dung Deh Suh Hot was released in 2021. He is currently working on an album.
