When Sunshine Velvet received the news on Sunday, October 16, 2022, that her husband, Sycure Gyani, given name Ralston Richards, a budding recording artiste had died in a tragic motorcycle accident while travelling along the Boscobel main road in St Mary, her entire world was suddenly turned upside down.

“I’ve never experienced anything like this before; it’s hard to cope with. I’m in so much pain right now. Sycure was everything to me; he was my world, and we shared a love that was so great. Every night since he died, I go to bed crying it’s so hard to live without him.”

She continued, “My husband was my best friend, and I was his best friend. For the past eight years, we did everything together. Now I see him in my dreams every night, and nothing I try can ease the pain, not even music, it’s hard to live without him.”

In 2015 the two lovebirds met each other at a recording studio in Ocho Rios and quickly became fast friends, eventually falling in love and getting married.

“The first time I saw Sycure he was in the recording booth singing a love song. I was blown away by the tenderness of his voice. Another time I bumped into him on the street in Ocho Rios and we exchanged numbers. He saved my number under the name ‘My Wife’ and showed me. I asked him why he did that and he said because you’re going to be my wife,” she shared.

“While we were dating, I went away to visit my father in the [US] for a brief time. Shortly after I returned Sycure proposed to me, and I accepted. Our wedding day was the happiest day of our lives. Now he’s gone and it hurts so bad. He was only 32, and he had so much potential. Not having any children together makes it even harder for me. We tried but it just never happened,” said Sunshine Velvet about her relationship with Sycure Gyani.

The young widow, whose given name is Shantell Anderson-Richards, is, however, determined to go on with her music career because she knows that’s what he would have wanted.

Her recently released single is titled To Sycure.

“This is an expression of love. I recorded it for my husband; so it really means a lot to me. It is a symbol of our undying love,” she said.

The song, which was produced by Conroy Smith for Love Star Music, was released on February 24.
