Double mourning for Sanchez

HOURS before the mother of reggae singer Sanchez’s was laid to rest in Canada on Saturday, news broke that his son, Kevan Jackson, was shot and killed in Bedward Gardens, August Town, St Andrew.

“We can confirm that Jackson, 21, also known as Kidz Friday, is Sanchez’s son. He was one of three men shot and killed in August Town early this morning (Saturday),” Senior Superintendent of Police Stephanie Lindsay, head of Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF’s) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), told the Jamaica Observer on Saturday.

According to police reports, at about 4:50 am on Saturday they responded to a call of gunshots being fired in the area where several men were playing dominoes. On their arrival, the three men were discovered lying along a dirt track in the vicinity of a football field with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

They were assisted to the hospital where the three were pronounced dead. No one has been arrested in relation to the killing.

The other men were identified as 24-year-old Rasheed Edwards, otherwise called “Buppy” and 18-year-old Keno Wray, also known as “Brains”, both of Bedward Gardens.

The Major Investigation Division of the JCF is conducting an investigation into the incident.

On Saturday, the funeral of Bridget Ivey – Sanchez’s mother – was held at the T Little Funeral Home chapel at 11:00 am, with interment in the Parklawn Cemetery, Ontario.

The 74-year-old evangelist died of cervical cancer on April 19. Originally from Stony Hill in St Andrew, she migrated to Canada in 1986.

Sanchez, whose given name is Kevin Anthony Jackson, is known for such reggae tracks as Forever, Never Dis Di Man, Lonely Won’t Leave Me Alone, and Chronic. His gospel songs include Amazing Grace, Who Is This Man, Praise Him, and My God Is Real.
