Expect the unexpected from Marion Hall at Sumfest
There is much buzz in anticipation of Minister Marion Hall taking the Reggae Sumfest stage at Catherine Hall on Saturday.
Fans of her music — both dancehall and gospel — are looking forward to seeing her in militant action for the festival.
Some sceptics believe she will yield to temptation and revert to her former “Lady Saw” persona in the space in which she reigned supreme. But Minister Marion has averred that she will never perform any track from her previous body of work.
What is certain is that Minister Marion Hall will be scintillating in her delivery for the July 22 stage.
Her recent performance at the New York-based Groovin in the Park was described by many as “outstanding”.
Joe Bogdanovich, chairman and CEO of DownSound Entertainment, organisers of Reggae Sumfest, was among the tens of thousands who watched her performance.
“I went to Groovin in the Park in New York to get a feel of what Minister Marion Hall might do on the Sumfest stage. I was, indeed, relieved by what I saw (no pun intended) and am confident that she will make an indelible impression on our audience. Her presence, confidence, and conviction were no less powerful than in her days as the queen of dancehall”, Bogdanovich said.
Minister Marion Hall has described herself as “music and heart, reggae, dancehall, hip hop, rock, I’m everything”, underscoring her range and musical talent.
Her single I’m Doing Better, released in March on the DownSound Records label, is currently #1 on the Jamaican Reggae Charts.
Hall was unapologetic and passionate about her commitment to her chosen path declaring that there was no turning back and fans will accept her because of the performer that she is.
Reggae Sumfest kicked off on Sunday 16 July with the Family Fun Day/Community Fest at Catherine Hall Stadium. This was follow by the Street Dance introduced in 2018 as a gift from Sumfest to thank the community. The legendary All White Party will be today, July 18, at Pier 1.
Blitz, the all-black fashion statement, established in 2017, will be at the Harbour City Mall on Wednesday July 19, and the Global Sound Clash at the Pier 1 car park on Thursday, July 20.
The festival wraps up with the two major stage shows on Friday and Saturday 22 July at Catherine Hall Entertainment Centre.
