Fill My Cup with iotosh
Singer and producer iotosh has released Fill My Cup, the second single from his forthcoming EP.
The EP, which is still untitled, is scheduled for release later this year.
Fill My Cup, which he produced, was released April 20 via SOUND TING. It is conscious and feel-good reggae track.
“I wrote the song at a low point in my life when I was doubtful of things working out for me, in both my professional and personal life. At the same time, I was intentionally trying to create music that was more relatable and palatable, instead of super intellectual and lyrical. I realise the message in the music shouldn’t be exclusive to certain people; it should connect with everybody. The words came from something more than myself, offering compassion and hopefulness — something I needed to hear, and I think many others needed to hear as well,” iotosh explained in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.
The previous single released from the EP was Fee Fi Foe.
The artiste iotosh is coming off a productive 2022, having worked on two Grammy-nominated albums — Koffee’s Gifted and Protoje’s Third Time’s The Charm. He also produced Stressed by American rapper Doechii.
On Koffee’s Gifted album, iotosh produced West Indies, while The Charm, Family (featuring Jesse Royal), Late at Night (with Lila Ike), Ten Cane Row (with Jorja Smith), and Here Comes the Morning are the tracks featured on Protoje’s album that he produced or co-wrote.
Said the Wolmer’s Boys’ and Munroe alum: “For Protoje’s album, it was a lot of work. I produced half of the album, contributed to tracks as composer and songwriter, functioned as mixing assistant at times, and even featured as an artiste. Protoje and I had started some of these songs from 2020, so it was two years of constant work. That’s why the Grammy nomination was very special to me, because of how involved I was from start to finish,” said iotosh.
In 2021 he produced Rich Forever by Jesse Royal and Vybz Kartel, which was featured on Jesse’s sophomore project Royal. It was also nominated for a Grammy in the Best Reggae Album category.
His entry into music was inevitable. His father is songwriter/reggae artiste Ragnam Poyser (who once recorded for the Xterminator label) while his mother is music journalist Michele Geister, who worked at Canada’s trendy Much Music (Canada’s version of MTV).
His first major production came in 2020 when he produced three tracks, including the title to singer Jah9’s Note to Self album on VP Records.
He has production credits on Lila Ike’s EP The Experience, and Protoje’s In Search of Lost Time.
