THE multi-award-winning sound Chromatic Live has two new faces. They are DJ Kryptic (now known as Kryptic Live) and Fyahman (now known as Fyahmatic).

“Being a neophyte to the industry, many persons said to me that I would be a part of Chromatic Live. However, I thought it was bigger than me and seeing that I started to MC in March of this year. So, to be honest, the real aspiration is to really and truly be the best at my craft,” Fyahmatic told the Jamaica Observer.

Asked how the opportunity presented itself for him to be a part of Chromatic Live, Fyahmatic said, “After working assiduously throughout the summer, co-founder Creep Chromatic linked me and proposed the idea and gave me time to think on it. As it came as a surprise, I took some time to think and also get advice on the whole situation. As bearing the responsibility was a serious one.”

Fyahmatic, a law student at The University of the West Indies, has worked as an MC with DJs such as Laing D, JJ Deadlock, Kevstar Universe, Insaneo, Nico Lee, Romzinova, Chaddy G, and 3D. He spoke about how he got into the industry.

“Firstly, I started hosting a lot of events held by the Guild and faculties on campus. Many of the events involved DJs. It was after an event one DJ, known as Baba, told me to seriously consider doing the work of an MC. After that, I found myself working with DJs while I hosted events and also started to seek guidance from other DJs, specifically DJ Insaneo and JJ deadlock. They allowed me to go on the road with them, watch them in action as well as granting me the opportunity to showcase my talent,” said Fyahmatic Live.

“Patrons pay their money for premium entertainment. Hence, I try my best to deliver high energy and good vibes at all times. Whether it be kicking off my shoes when I’m in a soca party or jumping off stage and into the crowd to connect with the audience. I’ve recognised that people are really drawn to these characteristics anytime I deliver on stage,” he continued.

According to Fyahmatic, an MC is just as important to an event as a DJ.

“The impact of the voice of an MC, I believe, is extremely vital. A very good MC is able to set and change the tone of an event. The job of the MC is to enhance what the DJ is playing. This would require both DJ and MC to be in sync as well as analyse where they need to take an event.”

For Kryptic Live, playing music has been a passion for him since he was a pre-teen.

“I was always interested in playing instruments from a young age, but growing up seeing my neighbours DJ-ing sparked a new interest. I would always go and watch when I saw them playing out and began teaching myself on virtual DJ and that’s where it started,” he said.

He continued, “I’ve been playing music since I was 12. It has been an amazing journey despite being slow in the early stages. I always had the passion for it, and thankfully I had very good support from my family and friends that helped to guide my decisions. It wasn’t always easy, but I felt like this was what I was supposed to do.”

Kryptic Live studied music production at the Brit School in London.

“Production was always a second passion of mine, so being able to go abroad to expand my knowledge and experience on this was definitely an opportunity I couldn’t miss. It gave me a new perspective, seeing a different scene and it definitely contributed to my style and music now,” he said.

Chromatic Live was formed in 2005 by Warren “Creep” Lee. The other members of Chromatic Live are Brush1, Travis Chromatic, Shantonio, Heavy D, JR and Ariez.
