G Mac Citylock
Dancehall and reggae artiste G Mac Citylock took a year to put together the finishing touches to his latest album titled The Legend.
The 12-track set was released in June via More Love Music.
In an interview with the Jamaica Observer, G Mac Citylock said the album is all about giving thanks for the life experiences that he has been through.
“The Legend will leave a message in the minds of being grateful and thankful for life experiences by embracing positive things around you that you may have overlooked based on challenges in life. Another message is also to be free in the mind and see yourself being great and being unlimited to overcome any obstacles,” said G Mac Citylock.
The Legend features the songs Change, Challenges (featuring Italian reggae group Sud Sound System), Poverty, Crime, I Know You Know, We Gonna Stick Together (featuring Sizzla), and Love Your Life.
The songs were recorded at the Big Yard studio in Kingston and mixed by Kammal Evans.
G Mac Citylock explained how the collaboration to produce an album with More Love Music came about.
“Actually, I was on tour in Europe and we met through a good friend and a fan, and he expressed his love for my music and was interested in doing an album. So I recorded the first track, Love Your Life and this resulted in the making of this wonderful album called The Legend.
Asked how Sizzla got involved with the project, he disclosed, “Sizzla is my musical father and mentor in the music industry, and it is always great energy working with a legend and an icon in our culture. When I am working with Sizzla I always tend to reach my highest potential because he is very creative, and him being that creative makes you have to think outside of the box to match his energy, frequency, and vibration. Give thanks to Sizzla, always.”
He said the feedback to The Legend has been encouraging.
“Great feedback from all over, but you know, my fans in Europe have been giving me a lot of support with this album, and overall I feel extremely good about this project due to the support I have been getting from radio personalities and music selectors.”
Born Garfield McLean, G Mac Citylock is from the Harbour View community. He shares that his music is inspired by life experiences.
“The daily experiences of people’s lives and situations, being the voice of the people who don’t have the access to express themselves. So I chose to represent these people through my music. Also, to inspire, motivate, and educate people with music, in terms of finding your true self with the knowledge of spirituality, controlling your emotions thoughts and words,” he said.
Said G Mac Citylock, “My goal in music is to connect the minds of people in a positive uplifting way, the same way they were inspired by Bob Marley, Ken Boothe, Beres Hammond, Sizzla, Buju Banton, and all the other great artistes who were on this journey before I started on this path. Their music touched my heart in a positive, uplifting way and I want to spread this same energy to the minds of my people.”
