Kndra puts spin on relationship matters
Kndra the Blrr doesn’t approve of scamming but is aware that women sometimes trick men out of money. This is the focus of her single, 60 Seconds.
“In 60 Seconds I am just acting a common part in a daily lifestyle adopted by quite a few females in Jamaica where they con men out of money to support themselves,” she said, with a chuckle.
The single, released June 3 on the Musiverse label, revolves around a minute-long conversation between an older man and a female, who tries to extract money from him.
“It is just a fun take on relationships. But on a serious note, real life scamming, especially lottery scamming, is becoming a major problem in Jamaica….is almost like this is becoming part of the national identity. This is something I don’t support in our island,” said Kndra the Blrr, whose given name is Kendra Chang.
Recently, Minister of National Security Dr Horace Chang, during his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on June 1, intimated that the fight over US$1 billion ($150 billion) in lottery scamming money flowing into the western section of the country was responsible for a 53 per cent increase in murders in Hanover, Westmoreland, and St James.
Kndra the Blrr grew up in the Spanish Town area and recorded her first single, Weh Di Money Deh in 2019, which poked fun at entertainers for not managing their money and success properly.
“I wasn’t interested in recording but I was always writing songs and singing for my friends, they were always trying to get me to go to the studio until one day I gave up and mi just go, and the rest is history,” she added.
