Masicka for Kgn Streetz Festival
Headlining the list of performers for the upcoming Streetz Festival is dancehall standout Masicka.
Fresh from his show-stopping performance at Reggae Sumfest a few weeks ago, this will be Masicka’s first time performing in Kingston in almost five years.
After hosting the event twice in St Ann, the promoters of Streetz Festival will stage the event in Kingston for the first time on September 2 at the National Stadium Car Park.
Director of Streetz Festival Chad Williams says the dancehall artiste has promised a performance like no other.
“Masicka will deliver a live performance, his first in Kingston in five years. On the cusp of his new album, he is very excited to introduce this to his fans. We are confident he will deliver as he has always done. The patrons have a lot to look forward to,” Williams said in an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Wednesday.
Aside from Masicka, the line-up will also include top selectors and other well-known performers.
“Alongside Masicka we will have the likes of Boom Boom, Shukkle Bus, ZJ Chrome and Coppershot, and some of the best talent in the dancehall space currently. We [have] put together the best line-up possible; this is the best in dancehall music, the best representation of the genre,” said Williams.
Dragon Stout is a major sponsor for the event. Other sponsors include Pepsi, Willcom Creative, Elite Creations, and SMA Talent Agency.
Williams explained the decision to bring the event to Kingston.
“The decision was made to come to Kingston to fill a void of this kind of event concept executed properly. We always had Kingston in our plans, COVID delayed our entry into the capital, but we are ready and more than excited to bring the Streetz energy.”
Streetz Festival was previously held at the Island Village Park in Ocho Rios.
Said Williams: “Patrons can except an authentic dancehall event with good production, safety at the utmost importance, and just an overall good time. We have secured some amazing partners with this staging with Dragon coming on board as title sponsor, Pepsi, and a few others that will help us bring the vision to life.”
He continued: “We are exceptionally proud of the success we’ve had with our last two stagings of the event in St Ann and we are looking forward to taking it to Kingston for our third staging. Patrons can look forward to a top-tier execution with easy bar access and a safe and comfortable environment to enjoy dancehall music.”
Known for a string of hit songs, Masicka signed with American independent label Def Jam Records earlier this year. His most recent hits include Pieces and Tyrant.
