A producer for 10 years, Oneil Masters — principal of Omasters Entertainment — is advising emerging colleagues to ensure that they have a genuine interest in their craft.

“Find the love for the music and focus on that; not the likes, fame or the opinion of people. When you find the love for music, you will want to learn more, do more, write and compose more. The end results will be quality music that will bring the likes, fame and all the other desires. Work first and then pleasure,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

Masters has already been having an eventful year with a line of releases singles, and album set for release in August.

“I am working with other artistes like Belly B, H-Cool, DJ Slyce, and Coco Boss to bring the audience some great music like Try with Belly B featuring Chronic Law, 10 Gyal Inna Pool by H-Cool featuring Coco Boss, and Nah Chop with Coco Boss. All these songs promise to be super great quality mixed and mastering music from Truskeen,” he said.

Starting his label in 2012, Masters has been working on music non-stop over the years, only getting better with the production of each new song.

“My production style is unique in the sense that each beat cannot be compared with another. Some may argue and wonder why I don’t make beats similar to others, but I am here to be different in everything I do; quality over quantity. For my songs to be recorded, I tend to think that my writing skills are top notch; hence, the singles coming out will be unforgettable,” said the Lionel Town, Clarendon native.

Masters has an array of admired producers who have helped to shape his craft.

“Internationally, DJ Khaled because of the love he displayed for music and family. Plus, he loves our Jamaican culture and he remembered the Jamaican artistes like Buju; also, I look up to Diddy because he produced music for the greatest rapper in the world, Notorious Biggie and R&B singer like Mary J Blige,” he said.

“Local producers include Michael Fairman from Vision House (Askel). He actually can see all the instruments in his head and produced the riddim. There’s also Turskeen Music Group that has a young producer who takes his time to produce quality mixes and mastering and Arkitech Music by Devario Jones. He is solid and produces quality reggae music and a regular mix and mastering guy for Beres Hammond. All these producers I humbly look up to produced quality music,” Masters added.
