More Baderation for deejay Skeng

EMBATTLED dancehall deejay Skeng was hurriedly ushered off stage as gunshots rang out during Baderation Concert at the National Park, Georgetown, in Guyana on Friday. He was the headliner.

The 21-year-old deejay — whose given name is Kevaun Douglas — was approximately 15 minutes into his set when an unidentified patron discharged his firearm in a gun salute as he performed Protocol. Members of the crowd began scrambling for cover. However, based on videos making rounds on social media, the Jamaican entertainer was unaware of what was happening immediately.

In an interview with Big Smith News Watch, Guyana’s National Security Advisor Gerry Gouveia condemned the incident and said there is a high level of security concern at present.

“Anything that disturbs the peace and break the law in Guyana and affect investor confidence is a national security matter and this certainly concerns me. The people who organised that show will have some serious questions to answer,” he said.

Gouveia added that a firearm was recovered and a search is under way for the perpetrator.

He further expressed shock that something like that could have occurred at an event with security personnel.

“I was extremely alarmed, a show like that, you would expect that people would have been screened properly to ensure that people are not taking weapons into an event like that,” Gouveia said.

Adding that the President Irfaan Ali, who is currently off the island has been briefed on the matter, Gouveia said the event promoters will be held accountable.

“To recklessly and irresponsibly fire weapons like that is just unfortunate. It is reckless and irresponsible and the organisers of that event ought to be held responsible and they will be held responsible because they are suppose to be ensuring the safety of people going there. There is suppose to be screening of the people going into that event and so an investigation is launched immediately,” he told Big Smith News Watch.

Skeng has been at the centre of controversy for the last couple days after being charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest at the Norman Manley International Airport last Tuesday while trying to board a plane to Trinidad and Tobago. He is being represented by Christopher Townsend, and will face the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on June 21.

Besides his stint in Guyana, Skeng was also booked to perform at the East Side Revival Return of Dancehall Festival at Ranch Setters in Valencia, Trinidad, on Saturday as well as at Space Night Club in San Fernando on Sunday.

Skeng is known for the hit single Protocol (with Tommy Lee Sparta), Heaven Passport (with Intence), Gunman Shift, London, and Street Cred.
