Much ‘luv’ for Tanto and Devonte
TANTO Metro and Devonte grabbed the headlines last year thanks to the gold certification of Luv, a song by Canadian singer Tory Lanez which samples their hit single Everyone Falls in Love.
Luv was certified gold in France for sales exceeding 100,000 units.
It was 25 years ago that Everyone Falls in Love was recorded and released by Donovan Germain’s Penthouse Music.
Everyone Falls in Love was a number one hit in Jamaica. It gained traction two years later in the United States thanks to airplay on mainstream radio.
The song was picked up by Sony Music which resulted in its crossover success, peaking at number 38 on Billboard‘s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and number 88 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart.
Tanto Metro recalled that Everyone Falls in Love was initially meant for Devonte to record solo.
“It was Devonte who got the rhythm from Donovan Germain. At the time, we were solo acts and we weren’t thinking of being a duo. He told Germain that he wanted us to record the song together. One day when I came back from the US, we put the song together and then we went to the studio to record it. Big honour and respect to Devonte, he was the one who put down his feet that he wanted to do the song with me,” he said.
