Deejay Shaka Pow is concerned about the “dunce” culture blooming in the dancehall. He is proposing a ‘Fully Bright initiative’ for students, starting from basic schools. This, he feels, will not only increase literacy but produce more skilled professionals who will help to boost the economy and reduce poverty in Jamaica.

“We need an immediate initiative to rescue students who are not serious about education. That driving force we had in past days is simmering because, for many, education is no longer consider the key for opening the doors to a better life. This mentality is driving our students away from a fully bright society,” said Shaka Pow.

The deejay is suggesting his initiative starts with ‘Fully Bright’ slogans placed in classroom, along corridors, and used in the form of songs to start the day. This should be extended in communities, along our highways, parks with buttons T-shirts, hand bands and caps to make it a national campaign.

“Instead of students bragging about being dunce, let’s us get them to be ‘Fully Bright’ instead of something negative,” he said.

Shaka Pow will be releasing the single Fully Bright, along with a music video, on December 16. It will be on his Outfytt Records imprint and distributed by I.W.A.A.D Music LLC.

“This song is not to attack the entertainment value of the current Dunce Cheque song by Valiant, now making social media rounds. A number of entertainers, inclusive of Sizzla, Assassin, G-Mac, and Baby Tash have pursued tertiary education… Education is more likely to create avenues of success than the lack thereof,” he said.

Shaka Pow, born Garth McDonald, is a medical doctor at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital in downtown Kingston.

His songs include Unconditional; No Loving, a collab with Beenie Man, Rubba Bounce ft Samboni; and No Ice Cream love ft Abby Dallas.
