Spot Valley High School dominates JCDC Traditional Folk Forms
SPOT Valley High School of Rose Hall, St James emerged with the ‘Best Overall Presentation’ award at the conclusion of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Traditional Folk Forms national finals held at the Little Theatre from June 7 to 10.
The school’s ‘Revival’ entry in the finals earned them the highest overall score over the four days of competition. The school also received the awards for ‘Best Overall Class Seven Award in the Revival Category’, ‘Best Overall Class Seven Award’, ‘Best Overall Revival Presentation’, ‘Best Class Four Quadrille — Camp Style’ and the ‘Most Outstanding Class Seven Teacher Award’.
According to Lenneth Richards, Traditional Folk Forms coordinator, the ‘Best Overall Presentation’ is awarded to the group/school with the highest scoring item, performed at the national level in the area of Traditional Folk Forms regardless of class or category. In 2010 the national finals, which began on Tuesday at the Little Theatre, Tom Redcam Drive, will be held throughout the month, starting at 10:00 am, except on June 25, when the Deaf Dance category begins at 3:30 pm. The Dance finals will be held June 13 to 18, Speech on June 20, 22, and 24, and Drama on June 21 and 23. The Music finals will take place from June 27 to July 1.
