Dubplate Express @ Christopher’s, Hermosa Cove

The quaint villa resort Hermosa Cove in Ocho Rios, St Ann, was abuzz with excitement Thursday last, as Christopher’s, the award-winning restaurant located on the villa’s property, played host to an unforgettable birthday dinner for Rock-born, New York-based socialite Elaine Chambers.

Resident Chef Conroy Arnold presented a five-course dégustation menu, known as the Dubplate Express, designed to tantalise the taste buds and showcase the finest flavours of The Rock. It did not disappoint! In between intermittent breeze (futile, really, against the high humidity), lusty laughter and heartfelt toasts Chambers and her nearest and dearest raved about each course.

The gastronomic journey started with the Mama Kid Pumpkin Soup, enhanced by a delicate coconut foam, served alongside straight-from-the-oven garlic bread. It was the comfort we never knew we needed on this still summer’s night! The Quenelle of Smoked Marlin was up next, a mouthfeel of smoky flavours. Then, the savoury vegetarian delight Steamed Porcini Mushroom Dumplings were followed by the Curried Goat Ravioli, a fusion of flavours with tender slivers of goat meat parcelled in homemade ravioli. Incredibly, there was still sufficient space for the evening’s catch: Poached Yellowtail Snapper, its delicate texture and subtle flavours amplifying its freshness.

Consider ordering the Dubplate Express on your next visit. #thankuslater
