    Captain Morgan’s Buccaneers Jerk Centre

Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards judge Pauline Edie reviews Captain Morgan’s Buccaneers Jerk Centre

Prejudices aside, given the fact that “a St Mary mi come from”, Buccaneers Jerk Centre serves up the best jerk this side of Jamaica! So lunch it was on a very warm day in the parish. Ideally suited as it is located more or less seven minutes’ drive from my home. Parking was easy and comfortable, with trees for shade.

Located on Llanrumney Farms, a property rich in pirate history and directly adjacent to the vibrant community of Heywood Hall, St Mary; Buccaneers with its outdoor seating, covered gazebos and events, has everything you need for a great dining experience…whether you are treating yourself, as a couple, group or family.

Buccaneers Jerk Centre has been synonymous with everything jerk and a staple on the food landscape in St Mary for many years. More recently, in 2020, it was acquired by a management/group of new owners (chief principal Marla Fitz-Walker) and has since been marketed under the Captain Morgan Brand; hence the change of name. With this change, the menu items widened to include other food items and the addition of other services such as Knutsford Express, Devon House IScream, Treasure Chest Shop which sells local honey under the Captain Bee label and the Iguana Specialty Bar.

Buccaneers is more than jerk! There is pizza, fresh fish prepared to order, BBQ spare ribs, smoothies, wraps and an assortment of local dishes and sides. All items are reasonably priced and the huge, easy-to-read digital menu boards makes ordering a breeze. Service is with a smile and impeccable. The staff, of course, was friendly and greeted each customer with good ole country charm.

Customer Melanie Alberta-Hibbert, travelling from Portland to Montego Bay indicated, “I had to stop for lunch, because this jerk is one of the best on the island.” Other customers expressed similar sentiments…“high-quality food”, “the jerk is pretty good”, “good quality food”, “it has everything you need for a family”, “lovely ambience”.

Travelling on the A1 route in St Mary anytime soon? Or if you feel the need for great ambience, the best jerk, quality ice cream in a relaxed family-friendly pirate-themed atmosphere with loads of extras beyond just food/eating, stop by Captain Morgan’s Buccaneers Jerk Centre.
