AFTER six unsuccessful starts, Always Wright displayed newfound determination on Saturday, November 18 at Caymanas Park, shedding her maiden status over seven and a half furlongs.

Under the guidance of trainer Michael Marlowe, jockey Jerome Inns expertly steered Always Wright to an impressive victory in the eighth event —a three-year-old maiden race with a purse of $1,050,000. Entering as 7/5 odds favourite, Always Wright led from start to finish, securing a comfortable victory by nine and a half lengths. Bad Investment, ridden by Bebeto Harvey, took second place while Princess Talise with jockey Tevin Foster secured third. Marlowe expressed delight in the horse’s performance and optimism for her future potential if she keeps progressing and maintaining soundness.

“Although we expected her to win her debut race Always Wright is just beginning to blossom now as she matures,” said Marlowe. “She is on track to become a fantastic four-year-old horse,” he said. He also attributed confidence in her victory to her preference for muddy conditions, as observed during morning exercise sessions. “We known that she enjoys muddy conditions from her morning workouts. She performs well in mud so we were always confident that she would win this race,” he added.

Marlowe commended Innis for his riding performance and following instructions perfectly. “It was an excellent ride by Jerome because I told him if she breaks sharp, put her up front — and he did just that,” he said.

With high hopes for Always Wright’s future prospects, Marlowe concluded, “She is certainly going places; I expect her to develop

into a remarkable filly.”
