Another double for trainer Gary Griffiths
GARY Griffiths continues to remind racing fans that he is a capable horseman when it comes to producing winners.
Griffiths saddled two winners on the 10-race schedule on Saturday, October 28, 2023 — Turnonthelight and Here Comes Doc.
Neglected at odds of 26-1 Turnonthelight, ridden by Tevin Foster, got up in time to beat Will The Conquerer on the line in the opening event, a three-year-old and upwards Claiming ($1 million-$800,000) spread coming down the five-straight (1,000m) course.
Turnontheligt was unable to match the pace of the leaders, spending the majority of the race among the backmarkers. Turnonthelight began to make strong headway after crossing the dummy rails and got up just in time for the win. Turnonthelight won by a short head in a time of 59.4 (23.1 x 46.0).
Here Comes Doc, on the other hand, was a more straightforward winner. The three-year-old bay colt won easily by six lengths in a seven-furlong (1,400m) Maiden Condition event for native-bred three-year-olds.
Here Comes Doc, ridden by Anthony Allen, stayed behind the pace for the opening half of the race before closing in on competitors in the straight for his maiden victory.
Sweet Victory (Tevin Foster) came in second, followed by Home Alone (Shane Richardson). 1:30.1 (25.1 x 50.0 x 1:15.3) was the winning time.
