Race horse owner Ruth Hussey will continue to be recognised for her contribution to racing with the renewal of a trophy race named after her talented horse, Miss Ruth, on Sunday, December 17.

The Miss Ruth Trophy is for native-bred two-year-old maidens at 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m) for a purse of $1.01 million.

Ruth Hussey is the first female to win the owners’ championship and has won the top juvenile race (Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes) five times with Royal Lancaster (1985); Rear Admiral (2002); Josie Wales (2007); Miss Ruth (2008); and Colonel Wales (2009).

Below is the analysis of the six runners declared to face the starter in the Miss Ruth Trophy.

1. VALLEY OF LOVE: (2 b f by Spieth – May Flower) – Finished second to the impressive Cyrptogirl in the SunnySide Stakes over 5 furlongs (1,000m) on December 9. Valley of Love is expected to deliver another good showing here.

2. LADY LAUREN: (2 b f by Deputy Glitters – Anna) – Good-looker who makes her debut here. Lady Lauren has been training fairly well coming into this race, and based on the reports from her gallops, she should be competitive here.

3. BANK CRAFT: (2 b c by Storm Craft – D’Angel) – Came home in fourth place on debut behind Comehometome on October 29 over 4 ½ furlongs (900m). Little or no improvement is expected from Bank Craft here.

4. OIL MACHINE: (2 ch c by Bern Identity – Keep The Faith) – Nicely bred colt who also makes his debut here. Oil Machine has not much at exercise to suggest that he can win here but a good showing of himself is anticipated here.

5. INTRESTNTIMESAHEAD: (2 b c by Bold Conquest – My Friend Lucy) – Was expected to deliver the goods on debut but finished third behind Grecian Light over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m) on December 2. With the experience, Intrestntimesahead should now come into his own and contest for top honours.

6. WORLD SURPRISE: (2 b c by Sunshine N Shadow – Eighteen Karat) – Another youngster who will take the track for the first time. World Surprise has been training well for his debut run here, and based on those spins he could open his account right away.
