Following Cryptogirl’s remarkable victory in the $1.01-million SunnySide Stakes on Saturday, December 9, trainer Byron Davis believes he has discovered a young filly capable of competing in the Classic series of races next season.

The two-year-old chestnut filly Cryptogirl, ridden by Omar Walker, led from start to finish to win the maiden special weight event for native-bred two-year-old fillies over 5 furlongs round (1,000m) by an impressive 18 ¾ lengths without breaking a sweat. Cryptogirl won in a time of 1:00.4 924.1 x 47.1).

“The jockey has been working the horse in the mornings and so he knew how the horse operates. I am pleased with time but the time doesn’t matter, [it] is the victory that says a lot,” Davis told the Jamaica Observer‘s The Supreme Racing Guide.

“I know that Cryptogirl was hard to lose and so I was confident in the win. The performance was good and she is a good one in the making. She might not race back for the rest of the year. I am going to put her down and take my time with her as she has Classic potential,” Davis said.

Cryptogirl got out to a fast start and immediately took the lead over Dove (Christopher Mamdeen) and Valley of Love (Phillip Parchment). While manoeuvring the half-mile (800m) turn, Cryptogirl accelerated and drew away the deep stretch to win easily.

Valley of Love finished second and Dove finished third.
