Digital One excites on debut

Oakridge Farms’ Digital One, a two-year-old American-bred bay filly, made an auspicious debut on Saturday, October 7, 2023, handily defeating rivals in the fifth running of the Princess Popstar Trophy.

Although taking time to get going, once Digital One got into her groove, the race was pretty much over as the Jason DaCosta trainee came home by 2 ¾ lengths in a contest for native-bred and imported two-year-olds over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m).

Don Wehby of Oakridge Farms believes he has another good horse under his attention.

“I am extremely pleased with the performance from Digital One,” Wehby told the Jamaica Observer‘s The Supreme Racing Guide.

“I mean, when you look at her on debut running 1:06.2 is good and she looked quite easy as well. She seems to be a good one. It is early days yet and the trainer thinks she is a good one as well. The hope is that she stays healthy and develops into a racehorse of worth,” Wehby said.

With Dane Dawkins in the irons, Digital One got away smartly at the start of the race, settling just behind stablemate Banadura (Abigail Able) with another stablemate Comehometome (Javaniel Patterson) in third place.

Banadura upped the tempo on Digital One but the latter responded well and caught up with the leader inside the furlong (200m) pole before sprinting clear to register an emphatic win.

Banadura held on for second place with Grecian Light (Tevin Foster) getting up for third. The final time for the race was 1:06.2 (23.4 x 46.2).
