ALTHOUGH the Grooms’ Association of Jamaica Trophy is the featured race on the day it is the top-rated three-year-old and upwards Open Allowance contest that should garner most attention, with seven quality runners competing over 5 furlongs (1,000m) round.

Below, The Supreme Racing Guide takes a close look at each runner and their chances of winning the $1.29-million total purse on offer.

1. PERFECT BREW: (4 b g by Bern Identity – Moonlight Brew) – Continues to show improvement with each run. Perfect Brew makes his season debut following a really good win on December 27 of last year when putting away Overnight Allowance horses by 6½ lengths going 6½ furlongs (1,300m). Perfect Brew steps up to compete and should not be disgraced although the distance might be just a trifle short for him.

2. CURLIN‘S AFFAIR: (5 ch h by Perfect Curlin – Nuclear Affair) – Fairly consistent sort who is expected to do his best once again without winning.

3. YELLOWSTONE: (4 ch g by Sensational Slam – Awry) – Improving sort who comes into the race on the back-end of three consecutive wins. His last race was on January 29 in the George HoSang Trophy over 5½ furlongs (1,100m) during which he won by a length and a half ahead of Nuclear Noon. Yellowstone should enjoy this minimum trip on the round course and put in another good effort. Can win again.

4. GOD OF LOVE: (7 b g by Adore The Gold – Shanda D) – Very consistent runner who is always on the premises when races are being decided. God of Love last won a race on December 10 of last year over 6 furlongs (1,200m). God of Love is comfortably among these and is expected to be one of the front-runners for this race. For sure, God of Love, will have to be caught.

5 EMPEROROFTHCATS: (4 b g by Emperor Hall – Laws of the Cat) – Won the Ash Wednesday Trophy over 6½ furlongs in 1:19.1 on February 22. Emperorofthecats has speed and will do his running on the front end, but winning against these is going to be a difficult task in this his first start in Open Allowance .

6. NUCLEAR NOON: (5 b h by Nuclear Wayne – Noon It Is) – Well-bred and talented runner who, on paper, looks like the horse to beat. Nuclear Noon defeated stablemates Eagle One and Madelyn’s Sunshine by 1½ lengths in the Millard Ziadie Memorial Cup over 5½ furlongs on March 5. Although facing Yellowstone here, whom he lost to in the George HoSang Trophy, Nuclear Noon is more than capable of turning the tables and beating the rest of the field as well.

7. LABAN: (6 b h by Sensational Slam – For Trixie) – Capable sort who has won two of his last three runs, Laban can sprint with these and, given his talent, can run them close to the finish.
