EASY DOES IT

Seven-year-old chestnut horse Ali easily obliged as the favouirte in the $580,000 Young Reid Trophy, a five-year-old and upward Claiming ($180,000-$150,000) race that included six-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two) over 5½ furlongs (1,100m).

Owned by David Reid, trained by Nicholas Smith, and ridden by Javaniel Patterson, Ali (Soul Warrior – Adina) sat just behind pace at the break in fourth place, behind Timetosayboodbye (Anthony Allen), Seadon (Milton Powell), and Sly Stalloon (Anthony Thomas).

Ali made his move going into the half mile (800m) when he slipped down in second position behind Timetosaygoodbye. Ali then picked up the pace approaching the distance and upped the tempo in deep stretch, cruising home by 11½ lengths in a time of 1:11.1 (24.2 x 48.3).

Golden Emperor (Roger Hewitt) came from behind runners to get second place, ahead of Timetosaygoodbye in third place.

RUM WITH ME

Rum With Me, running with the visor off, made light work of rivals in the $840,000 Victor Dixon Trophy for three-year-old and upward Claiming ($750,000-$600,000) horses over 5½ furlongs.

It wasn’t the best of runners leaving the starting gates at the break as Rum With Me sat behind runners and watched as Noble Impulse (Tevin Foster) and Denbigh Life (Samantha Fletcher) set the early pace.

The Fernando Geddes-conditioned Rum With Me continued to race behind runners navigating the half-mile turn, before hugging the inside rails and cutting the turn entering the lane.

Getting the run on the inside rails in deep stretch, jockey Reyan Lewis produced his mount and Rum With Me responded and won easily by nine lengths at the wire, ahead of Den Street (Roger Hewitt) and Custer (Anthony Allen). The final time for the event was 1:08.0 (23.1 x 46.3).

THE EXODUS

The Exodus, trained by Steven Todd and ridden by Anthony Thomas, just got up in time to beat rivals in the $700,000 Cornel Haye Trophy, a Maiden Condition race for native-bred four-year-olds and upward over 5 furlongs (1,000m) straight).

The Exodus broke off slow at the start of the event and raced behind the pace as Another Wave (Anthony Thomas), Cave Man (Ramon Nepare), and Blade (Bebeto Harvey) set the early fractions.

The Exodus continued to race behind the front-runners as Blade emerged as the lone leader passing the dummy rails, looking strong on the front end while approaching the final furlong (200m) of the race. When all seemed lost in the final stages of the race Thomas produced his mount late and The Exodus got up in the nick of time for the win.

The Exodus won by three quarters of a length ahead of Blade and Another Wave in a time of 1:04.2 (24.4 x 48.1).

BADGYALRIRI

The Howard Jaghai-conditioned Badgyalriri registered her second win for the season from four starts in the $730,000 Dalton “Fitz G” Peart Trophy, a Restricted Allowance IV contest for native-bred five-year-olds and upward (non-winners of three) and imported five-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two) over five furlongs straight.

Ridden by Jerome Innis, Badgyalriri raced behind the leaders in the early part of the race as Prosecco (Samantha Fletcher), Queen Zan (Jordan Barrett), Chiney Music (Andree Powell), and Absolute Blue (Sadiki Blake) blazed the trail.

With nothing much to separate the leaders coming across the dummy rails, Badgyalriri was produced on the outside of runners in the final stages of the race, winning by three quarters of a length in a time of 1:04.0 (24.0 x 48.0). Finishing in second place was Morse Code (Anthony Allen), and capturing third place was Prosecco.

SEVEN HORSES CLAIMED

In the first race, Byron Davis claimed Sly Stalloon for owner Leroy Williams from Delroy Wisdom; Oral Hayden claimed Ali for himself from Nicholas Smith; Delroy Wisdom claimed Golden Emperor for owner KT Racing Stable from Errol Subratie; and Subratie claimed Party Princess for owner Joseph Martin from Randolph Scott. All horses from the first event were claimed for $180,000 each.

Phillip Lee claimed Denbigh Life for owner Joseph Landell for $750,000 from Oraldo Chin; Phillip Elliott claimed Rum With Me for owner Andrew Elliott for $750,000 from Fernando Geddes; and Carlton Cunningham claimed Den Street for owner Carlton Watson, also for $750,000, from Joseph Thomas from the second race.
