Jockey Trevor “Slicer” Simpson continued his good form when he booted home four winners, including Rowdyrooster in the CAN$9,000 Marathon Series Stakes on the seven-race programme at Grande Prairie racetrack in Alberta, Canada, on Saturday.

Trained by Jim Depew, Rowdyrooster won the Thoroughbred Claiming Stakes for three-year-old and upwards over one mile and one sixteenth by 11 ¾ lengths.

Roedyrooster broke off well in mid-pack behind the early leaders before moving up on the backstretch to take over the lead. Once settled in front, Rowdyrooster drew clear from rivals to win ahead of of two other Jamaican jockeys, Ryan Nelson on Ocanera and Orlando Foster on Roman Steel.

Simspon’s other winners were Herculean in the second race for trainer Gary Marks in a Starter Allowance over six furlongs; Llyra for trainer Shawn McConaghie in the fourth race, an Allowance race over six furlongs; and Capalli for trainer Marks in an Allowance contest over five-and-one-half furlongs.

Simpson has now ridden 16 winners, nine ahead of fellow Jamaican Richard Lunan on seven winners. Jose Rocha is next on six winners, with another Jamaican, Larris Allen, in fourth on five winners.

Lunan had two winners on the day in Bells and Whistles in the third race and Devils Command in the seventh race.

The Grande Prairie race meet, which started on July 9, 2022, ends on August 28, 2022.
