$10m to stage Hague agri-show

TRELAWNY, Jamaica – Some $10 million is being spent to stage this year’s 66th Hague Agricultural and Industrial Show to be held at Hague, near Falmouth on Ash Wednesday, February 22.

“We are pulling out all the stops to ensure that this year’s show is the most organised and beneficial to all and sundry,” said Trelawny Association of Branch Society (TABS) President Audrey Nelson.

The event, which was officially launched by Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Pearnel Charles Jr on Wednesday, is being hosted by TABS, an affiliate of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS), under the theme: ‘Fostering Economic Growth, Through Agricultural Value Chains.’

The last staging of the show — held over two days in 2020 — was officially declared open by Prime Minister Andrew Holness, who described it as a resounding success. It was the first time in the history of the event that a prime minister of Jamaica was doing the official opening duties.

Nelson told OBSERVER ONLINE on Wednesday that this year’s staging of the popular show promises to be even bigger and better than previous shows.

“We have a well-manicured ground so patrons who want to take their chairs and camping beds for fun and relaxation will have that opportunity at this year’s show. We’re increasing our offering to our patrons, it our commitment that none of our patrons must leave this year’s show not satisfied with the level of organisation and preparation. In fact, I’m convinced that this year’s show will be recorded as the best organised.”

The show gives farmers and producers of agricultural products the opportunity to showcase a diversity of agricultural products and services that are aligned with agriculture.

There is also a rich entertainment segment featuring both gospel and secular artistes.

Nelson said the names of the impressive line-up of artistes will be released in coming days.
