Bail extended for Opa restaurant owner on assault charge
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The owner of Opa Greek Restaurant and Lounge, Alexx Antaeus, had his bail extended when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
Antaeus is charged with assault following an altercation with a taxi operator last month.
It is alleged that Antaeus was attempting to exit an apartment complex when the taxi blocked his path.
It is also alleged that the businessman slapped the taxi operator in his face.
The taxi operator reportedly pulled a knife and accosted the businessman who received a cut on his hand.
When the matter was called up, Antaeus’ attorney Peter Champagnie argued that his client, who denied slapping the taxi operator, was not the aggressor and that the charge was unjust.
Prior to extending Antaeus’ bail, Parish Judge Maxine Ellis instructed the prosecutor to re-examine their case against the businessman and make a decision on whether they wish to proceed.
Antaeus is to return to court on January 31.
