#CariftaGames2023: Nkrumie pulls up at CARIFTA Games
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s national junior record holder Bouwahjgie Nkrumie pulled up in his Boys Under-20 100m first round race as the 50th CARIFTA Games got underway at the Thomas A Robinson stadium in Nassau, Bahamas.
Nkrumie, who won the ISSA Boys Class 1 100m in 9.99 seconds last week, led his heat before he pulled up at about 80 metres into the race, fell to the ground clutching is right leg.
He was the second big name athlete who failed to get past the first round. Last year’s Girls Under 17 double sprint champion Adaejah Hodge of the British Virgin Islands did not take her place at the start line.
Meanwhile, all the other Jamaicans advanced to this afternoon’s semis finals of their respective 100m events – Natrece East and Tiana Marshall in the Under-17 Girls; Tramaine Todd and Khamani Gordon in the Under-17 boys and defending champion DeAndre Daley in the Under-20 men’s 100m.
