#Champs2023: Aaliyah Foster leads Girls’ Class 1 long jump qualifiers
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Mount Alvernia High’s Aaliyah Foster needed just one jump to qualify for the finals of the Class 1 girls’ long jump with a wind-aided 6.26m (3.4m/s) on Thursday’s third day of ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
Foster, the Class 2 champion last year and who was second in the CARIFTA Trials two weeks ago, was the only athlete to jump over 6.00m as only three jumpers got the automatic qualifying mark of 5.80m.
Holmwood Technical’s Celine Riddle was second best with 5.88m (-0.5m/s), followed by xcelsior High’s Jade Ann Smith who was sixth in the Class 1 final last year, as next best with a wind-aided 5.81m (2.6m/s) while Kiara South of Edwin Allen High was fourth with 5.69m (2.8m/s).
Immaculate Conception’s Onanda Lowe who was ninth last year, also qualified after she jumped 5.39m (0.0m/s).
