Camperdown's Britannia Johnson retains Class 1 shot put title with new record at Champs 2023.
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Camperdown High’s Britannia Johnson ended her Champs career on a high on Saturday’s final day of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics championships at the National Stadium with a meet record 15.33m to win back-to-back Girls’ Class 1 shot put gold medals.
After taking the lead and winning the gold medal with a throw of 14.72m in the second round, the CARIFTA Games champion unleashed a monster throw in the final round that broke Fiona Richards’ 14.93m set in 2018 and her own previous personal best of 14.98m set last month.
Adding to the family celebrations, her twin sister, Brittanie took the silver medal with 13.62m while Immaculate Conception’s Juliet Smith was third with 13.34m.
