#Champs2023: JC’s Reid oncourse for second sprint medal after qualifying for 200m semis
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica College’s Jaiden Reid will be seeking a second individual sprint medal after he led the qualifiers in the Boys’ Class 1 200m on Thursday’s third day of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
Reid, who was third in the Class 1 100m on Wednesday, ran 21.11 seconds (-0.8m/s) to win his first round heat and advanced to Friday’s semi-finals.
Marchino Rose of Kingston College- 21.41 seconds (-0.9m/s), Jamaica College’s Malique Smith Band- 21.54 seconds and St Elizabeth Technical’s Javorney Dunkley- 21.58 seconds (-0.8m/s) also made progress to the semi-finals.
Kingston College’s Nyrone Wade ran 21.88 seconds (1.3m/s) to lead the Class 2 semi-final qualifiers, ahead of Sawayne Kerr of St Elizabeth Technical-21.96 seconds (-0.6m/s), Calabar High’s Khamani Gordon who was disqualified in the 100m after he obstructed another runner, also made progress after he ran 22.06 seconds (0.3m/s).
Kingston College’s Tahj-Marques White-22.16 seconds (0.5m/s)and Herbert Morrison’s Tavaine Stewart who was third last year, are also through to the semis.
Kingston College’s Jordan Rehedul who is on course for two medals, ran 23.07 seconds (0.6m/s) to win his Class 3 first round, second only to Jamaica College’s Malique Dennis- 22.89 seconds (0.0m/s), Calabar High’s Christopher Ellis ran 23.25 seconds and St Jago High’s Rayj Reece clocked 23.37 seconds.
