KINGSTON, Jamaica - It was sweet redemption for St Elizabeth Technical’s Shamer Blake as he won the Class 1 boys' 400m hurdles on Friday’s fourth day of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys' and Girls' Athletics Championships at the National Stadium in a personal best 50.76 seconds.
Blake, who was expected to medal last year, did not complete the event and came into the championships as the favourite and delivered in a big way by running his second lifetime best this week after running 51.63 seconds in the semi-finals.
Jamaica College’s Tyrece Hyman was second in 52.60 seconds, while Kingston College's Antonio Forbes retained his bronze medal from last year with 52.80 seconds.
Blake’s time was the third best in the world in the Under -20 age group, behind two Jamaicans, Roshawn Clarke’s world Under- 20 leading 50.52 seconds and Forbes’ 50.68 seconds.
