KINGSTON, Jamaica - Edwin Allen High’s title defence has been given a big blow after the withdrawal of Serena Cole from the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys' and Girls' Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
Cole, who was expected to win Wednesday evening’s Class 1 100m, did not report to the starting line and was absent from the long jump today, another event she was expected to win.
Under World Athletics rules failure to report to the start of any event during a championships, would disqualify an athlete from continuing.
The World Under- 20 100m silver medallist, who is also part of the 4x100m relay team, was expected to score heavily for the Michael Dyke -coached team.
Cole appeared to suffer a leg injury in Wednesday’s semi-finals of the Class 1 100m, as right after she won her race in 11.17 seconds (0.7m/s) she seemed to limp back to the start line, then grabbed her gear and left the track.
