KINGSTON, Jamaica— Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia Grange, has described the contribution of Christopher Armond to the sport of horse racing in Jamaica and the Caribbean as enormous.

Armond died on Wednesday at the age of 67 after a short illness.

Grange, in a statement, said that Armond’s contribution in the sport of horse racing goes beyond his commentary.

“Chris was certainly the standard for race horse commentary for many years but his contribution was much more than that, measured against the administrative skills he lent not only to his local racing industry but to those of Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados; with him even doing work in the United States,” Grange stated.

“We recall that in recognition of his superlative commentary skills, Chris received the Press Association of Jamaica’s Golden Microphone Award and that he was inducted into the Jamaica Racing Commission’s Hall of Fame and also received the Caymanas Track Limited Chairman’s Award. The impact that Chris Armond made on the horse racing industry in the Region was extraordinary and will not be easily forgotten,” the sport minister added.

She expressed condolences to the “family, relatives, friends and associates and to the horse racing fraternity.”
