Christiana High makes it to second round in D’Cup
MANCHESTER, Jamaica – Christiana High School made it back-to-back qualification to the second round of the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition after beating previously qualified Holmwood Technical 2-1 in their Zone G top of the group match on Friday.
The win took Christiana High to 15 points, the same as Holmwood Technical but with a superior goal-difference and to the top of the points table and joins the other 20 schools that had booked their spots up to Thursday.
The teams had drawn 1-1 in the first round and going into the game Christiana High knew they had to win to have any hope with Mile Gully High breathing down their neck.
On Friday Mile Gully beat Alston High 4-0 to finish their first round in third place on 14 points.
Meanwhile, Daniel Roberts scored twice as Dinthill Technical beat second placed McGrath High 4-0 to win all games in Zone K for the third time in the last six years.
Dinthill Technical were one of the first qualifiers for the second round and finished with 47 goals, the most by any school in the competition.
Charlemont High finished third in the zone after beating Guys Hill 4-0 at Tacky High to finish with 19 points and put themselves in the running for one of the two best third placed teams.
