Clunis seeking back-to-back hammer throw PB in Canada
Nayoka Clunis will be seeking back-to-back personal best throws when she competes at the Victoria International Track Classic at Centennial Stadium in Victoria, British Columbia in Canada on Sunday.
Clunis, who won her fourth national title at last weekend’s national championships, improved her career-best mark to 71.18m while placing second at Friday’s 40th staging of the Harry Jerome Classic held at McLeod Athletic Park in Langley, British Columbia.
The mark beat her previous best of 71.13m set a month ago at Iron Wood Classic in Rathdrum Idaho and moved her closer to the national record 71.48m set by Daina Levy in 2016.
Central American and Caribbean Games silver medallist Erica Belvit was fourth in the event with 68.90m while Canadian Camryn Rogers won with a mark of 76.12m with American Jill Shippee third with 70.83m.
Shot putter Lloydricia Cameron threw a season’s best 17.14m for second place, going over the 17.00m twice in the competition and for the first time this season.
Canadian Sarah Mitton threw a season’s best 19.83m to win and replace Jamaican champion Danniel Thomas-Dodd with the fourth best mark of the year so far.
American Rachel Fatherly finished third with 17.02m.
Roxroy Cato, a finalist at the national trials last weekend, was second in the men’s 400m hurdles, running 50.02 seconds, beaten by Shakeem Hall Smith of The Bahamas, who won with a personal best 49.25 seconds with Canadian Justin Rose third with 51.51 seconds.
