DJ Beko’s murder case postponed
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Murder suspect Chevon “DJ Beko” Fairclough is expected to make another appearance before the courts on April 28 as his case file was still incomplete when the 30-year-old music engineer appeared in the St James Parish Court on Thursday.
Fairclough, who is from Love Lane in Montego Bay, is charged with the murder of 26-year-old Sashane “Shane” Sterling of Williams Street in the parish.
In addition to several case documents still being outstanding, Fairclough’s recently retained attorney – whom he identified as Adrian Dayes – was not in court on Thursday.
Presiding parish judge Kaysha Grant-Pryce rescheduled the case so that the investigating officer could take the necessary steps to ensure the file is complete.
Fairclough has been remanded.
According to court records, about 10:00 pm on September 28, 2022, Sterling and Fairclough were among patrons outside Rasta Shop on King Street having drinks and listening to music. It is reported that while there, Fairclough allegedly said to Sterling, “[Expletive], yuh remember when yuh diss mi uncle?”
Sterling turned around and replied, “Do wah yuh wah do,” before changing the music and sipping his drink.
It is alleged that Fairclough then walked away, pulled a black handled kitchen knife from his sweater, raced towards Sterling, and stabbed him in the chest.
Sterling collapsed and a passing motorist assisted him to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
It is alleged that a patron who saw what happened intervened in an attempt to apprehend and restrain Fairclough, but his efforts were met with resistance from Fairclough who tried to stab him.
Fairclough then allegedly threw away the knife and fled the scene.
Following investigations, he was arrested and charged.
