Fraser-Pryce among finalists for World Athletics Female Athlete of the Year Award

KINGSTON, Jamaica –Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has been named among the top five finalists for the World Athletics Female Athlete of the Year Awards, the sport’s governing body announced on Monday.

This comes on the heels of Fraser-Pryce’s record breaking season in which she claimed her fifth world 100m title and her fifth Diamond League trophy.

The 10-time world champion ran a world-leading 10.62 seconds and a historic seven sub-10.70 races in the event this season, the most by any woman in the history of athletics.

Meanwhile, her compatriot, Shericka Jackson, did not make the list of finalists.

The World Athletics Council’s vote accounted for 50 per cent of the result, while the World Athletics Family’s votes and the public votes each counted for 25 per cent of the final result.

Fraser-Pryce will be joined by Tobi Amusan of Nigeria, Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela, Sydney McLaughlin of the United States, and Peru’s Kimberly Garcia. The winner will be crowned at the World Athletics Awards on December 5.
