Gayle fouls out in long jump
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Reigning World Champion Tajay Gayle failed to register a legal mark in the men’s long jump at Saturday’s second JAAA/SDF Jubilee meet at the National Stadium.
Gayle, the national record holder and Olympic finalist, fouled all three of his first round efforts and failed to advance to the final.
Guyanese Emmanuel Archibald won the event with 7.79m (1.8m/s), beating Shawn-D Thompson- 7.61m (2.0m/s), while Jullane Walker was third with 7.58m (1.4m/s).
Meanwhile, former national junior representative Anthony Cox ran a personal best 45.75 seconds to win the men’s 400m.
Cox lowered the previous best of 45.79 seconds he ran in 2019 as he held off World Championships finalist Demish Gaye (46.04 seconds), to win the third heat, while Javier Brown of Racers TC was third in 46.44 seconds.
Barbadian Sada Williams won the women’s event with 51.05 seconds, ahead of MVP training partners Janieve Russell (51.26 seconds) and Junelle Bromfield with 51.72 seconds.
