Granville host Flankers in major league semis
ST JAMES, Jamaica— Former champions Granville United and Flankers FC will meet in the first leg of their St James Football Association Sandals Resorts International Major League semi-finals at Sam Sharpe Teachers College in Granville on Saturday, starting at 3:00pm.
Flankers FC, who were second in the points table at the end of the regular season with 26 points, three more than third placed Granville United, won both games between the teams this season.
The other semi-finals between Reggae Youths and Cambridge FC will start Sunday at the UDC Field with both return legs set for Thursday.
Flankers FC will go into Saturday’s game with some psychological advantage, having picked up six points from Granville United this season — beating them 3-1 in their first meeting before being awarded all three points after their return round game was not played because the Granville United grounds was not prepared.
Flankers FC are coming into the game on the back of three wins, albeit one from the board room after Heights FC failed to field a team. They hammered Montego Bay Boys Club 12-0 a week ago on the back of a 2-0 win over Reggae Youths.
Danique Clarke and Tevin Fuller have combined to score 12 of Flanker FC’s 35 goals and will be expected to lead them in the quest for a win on Saturday.
Granville United will be without Damion Reid who was sent off in their 1-1 game against Cambridge FC on Tuesday but should still have enough firepower to make the contest even.
Andre Tate is their leading scorer with six goals, but schoolboy Deshawn Talbert has added some depth to their midfield and will team up with Andrew Allen.
