Guinness Sounds of Greatness takes over Ocho Rios for first semi-final

Magaritaville, Ocho Rios comes alive Friday for the very first semi-final for the 2023 staging of Guinness Sounds of Greatness. Curated to fuel the next generation of sound system DJs, four upcoming DJs will go head to head for a chance to advance to the finale in the quest for the coveted title of the GSOG ‘Nex Gen’ Champion for 2023.

The four sounds going head to head in the first semi-final are DJ Dynamo Sound, YM Entertainment, DJ Fire Blanks and DJ Jah Jah Blacks of Sweet Love Sound. Contestants will be competing in three rounds – juggling round, challenge round and chune fi chune. The judges include past GSOG winner and veteran DJ Ricky Trooper; founder of Bass Odyssey, Keith Walford and DJ Kurt Riley.

Hosted by Badda Bling and Fabian ‘Fyahman’ Morris, the first semi-final promises to be a high-energy showdown and the ultimate sound system showcase. In addition to the exciting clash, dancehall artiste Jah Vincii will close out the evening’s festivities. Thousands of patrons are expected to show up and show out in their numbers as authentic dancehall clash-culture will be on full display.

“We are very excited to see what these sounds have to offer. Guinness has always been a big supporter of all things Dancehall and undoubtedly, the future of Dancehall lies in the hands of these disc jockeys,” Guinness’ Brand Manager, Nadine Hylton, said.

“This year we want to give the next generation of the sound system clash culture a platform to grow and develop their undeniable talent. GSOG 2023 will be epic and patrons will be blown away by this year’s staging throughout all rounds. We are happy to provide a platform for them to showcase their skills and talents,” Hylton added.

With this being GSOG’ 15th staging, Guinness upped the ante where contestants will be vying for $1.5 million in cash and prizes. Hylton said that consumers, dancehall lovers and appreciators of dancehall clash culture will not want to miss out on any of the events.
