Holness praises World Champs athletes

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Prime Minister Andrew Holness has heaped praise on the nation’s athletes who competed at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon which concluded on Sunday.

Jamaica picked up three silver medals on the final day to end with 10 medals and were third on the medals table, behind the United States, which bagged 33 total medals; and Ethiopia, which also had 10 medals but with four gold took second place on the table.

In the points table, calculated based on finalists, Jamaica were second with 110 points, behind the USA’s 328. Ethiopia were third with 106 points and Kenya fourth with 104.

In a post to social media Monday morning, Holness said he was “extremely proud” of how well the athletes represented Jamaica.
