Jah Teff empowers youth with ‘Money’
Empowerment is not usually associated with contemporary dancehall which is replete with gangster or vulgar themes. With Money, Jah Teff advises the youth to be business savvy.
The song, which features deejay Nymron, is produced by Jah Teff, aka Gary Johnson.
“The message behind Money is simply investing money to make more money. I want to reach the younger generation with this song,” he said.
Money is the follow-up to Can’t Sleep which was released in January. That single is a collaboration with Keisha Martin.
Jah Teff is from Montego Bay. He has been recording music since 1996, his first released song being Excercise produced by The Warlord himself, Bounty Killer.
In the ensuing years, he has recorded songs for various producers including Ed Robinson and Jah Life. It has earned the New York-based artiste several admirers in the music business including Anthony B with whom he has toured the United States.
Jah Teff credits that exposure for his development as an artiste.
“Touring with Anthony B was my first tour in the US. He saw the potential in me as an artiste working hard to perfect my craft. The drive and love of the music has kept me going,” said Jah Teff.
