Jamaica’s Distin named on the Bowerman 2023 Preseason Watch List

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica and Texas A&M’s Lamara Distin has been named to the Bowerman’s 2023 Women’s Preseason Watch List, the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Tuesday.

Distin, who is Jamaica’s national record holder in the high jump, is making her first appearance on the highly regarded preseason list of top athletes after a 2022 sweep of the NCAA indoor and outdoor titles in the event.

She had her best performances outdoors, clearing a best of 1.97m for a share of fourth all-time collegiately. She added three more performances at 1.95m that made her the first athlete with four clearances over that height in the same outdoor season.

Distin is the 17th Texas A&M athlete to make the women’s list, placing the Aggies second all-time in Bowerman history.

Last year, Jamaica’s Demisha Roswell of Texas Tech University made the prestigious list for her achievements in the 100m hurdles.

The Bowerman is a track and field award that is the highest accolade given to the year’s best student-athlete in American collegiate track and field annually.
