JDF senior officer accused of sexual misconduct asked to resign
A Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) senior officer accused of sexual misconduct has been asked to resign from the organisation following an internal investigation.
In a release on Thursday, the JDF said its investigation, which began in October, found that the soldier breached its Sexual Harassment (Prevention) Policy 2018 and the Personal Relationships and Fraternisation Policy.
The JDF said its Defence Board “…has since called for the resignation of the officer which will result in the termination of all benefits post service”
It said the victims have been advised of their right to make official reports to the police.
“The JDF reiterates its zero tolerance for actions that are in breach of its policies and continues to implore service members and civilians who are aware of any breach of any policy to use the approved processes to report them,” the JDF said.
In March 2021 two male soldiers were charged with the rape of a woman soldier at Up Park Camp.
Two months earlier a JDF officer resigned amid allegations of sexual misconduct.
