Jelani Walker falls ill, unable to join team
EUGENE, Oregon- The Jamaican men’s sprint relay pool at the World Championships has lost one of its members as Jelani Walker has fallen ill and will not be able to make it to the championships, OBSERVER ONLINE was told Wednesday.
The disclosure was made by the Jamaican team’s media liaison officer, Dennis Gordon. Walker was fourth in the men’s 100m finals at the national trials last month, running 10.00 seconds.
Meanwhile, four other members of the team – discus thrower Chad Wright, 400m runner Gregory Prince, long jumper Chanice Porter and national women’s 800m champion Chrissann Gordon-Powell – were still not in Eugene up to publication time but are expected to join soon.
It is understood that Olympic finalist Wright had some visa issues while Prince was expected to leave Jamaica Wednesday afternoon and was expected in Eugene later.
The United States-based Porter and Gordon-Powell, it was heard, had requested more time with their respective coaches and would report to the camp on Friday.
