Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic ends today

ST JAMES, Jamaica — The champions of the Montego Bay and Rose Hall Divisions of the Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic will be decided on Sunday as the sixth staging of the three-day NCAA Men’s Division One basketball tournament comes to a close at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St James.

ACC team Wake Forest will meet Loyola Marymount in the championship game in the Montego Bay Division after wins over LaSalle University and Georgetown University respectively on Friday, starting at 2:30 pm.

Queen College who beat University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and Morgan State who had a nail-biting one point overtime win over Utah Valley also on Friday, will meet in the Rose Hall Division championship game, set to start at 5:00 pm.

Both games will be bracketed by two consolation games, LaSalle will meet Georgetown in the 12:00pm opener with University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and Utah Valley State meeting in the final game set to start at 7:30 pm.

Morgan State beat Utah Valley 73-72 in overtime in the late game on Friday, to end an enthralling first day of top quality basketball.

Morgan State led by three points 35-32 at half time but Utah Valley rallied to tie the game at 68-all at full time, forcing an extra period where

Morgan State rallied to outscore Utah Valley 5-4.

The game ended on an anticlimax as Utah Valley’s Le’Tre Darthard appeared to have been fouled on a two point attempt by Morgan State’s

Malik Miller but the call was overturned by the officials.

Today Morgan State faces a Queens University team that outscored Green Bay 47-30 in the second half to overturn a slim one point 34-35 deficit at the half way mark.

Kenny Dye and Kalib Matthews had led Queens in their first win and will be expected to continue today.

Wake Forest will take a four -game winning run into their game against an impressive looking Loyola Marymount team that ran away from Georgetown in the second half on Friday, outscoring them 52-24 in the second half after trailing by 10 at half time.

Four players led by Keli Leaupepe with 15 points led Loyola who made 12 of 35 three point attempts.

As they did in their first appearance, Georgetown will have to try and repair the damage after looking good in the first half on Friday but imploded in the second half when they made only eight of their 29 field goal attempts.

Sunday’s Games:

LaSalle vs Georgetown- 12:00 pm

Wake Forest vs Loyola Marymount- 2:30 pm

Queens vs Morgan State- 5:00 pm

Green Bay vs Utah Valley- 7:30 pm
