Juliet Holness confirmed as Speaker of the House; Heroy Clarke is her deputy
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Member of Parliament for St Andrew East Rural, Juliet Holness was a short while ago elevated to the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives.
She had been Deputy Speaker since the Jamaica Labour Party returned to power following its landslide victory in the September 2020 General Election.
But the Speaker’s position became vacant with the sudden resignation of Marisa Dalrymple-Philibert last Thursday. Dalrymple-Philibert, who also resigned as the Member of Parliament for Trelawny Southern, was under mounting pressure to step aside following a damning report from the Integrity Commission which recommended eight criminal charges against her related to omissions she made on her statutory declarations for the period 2015-2021.
