Lamara Distin improves on indoor high jump record
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Lamara Distin improved on her national indoor high jump record after winning the event with 1.94m on the first day of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic held at the Albuquerque Convention Centre on Friday.
Distin, who attends Texas A&M University, was winning her second event in a row after opening the season with 1.90m a week earlier. She improved on her previous best of 1.92m and also set a new school record, passing the 1.93m set by Tyra Gittens in 2021.
At the same meet, World Championship finalist Wayne Pinnock of the University of Arkansas won the men’s long jump event with a personal best of 8.10m after only one jump.
His mark beat his previous best of 7.92m set in January 2022 and is the eighth best of all time on the Arkansas performance list and number two in the National Collegiate Athletic Association and fourth best in the world so far.
Joanne Reid of Arkansas was sixth in the women’s 200m in 23.06 seconds; Kevona Davis of the University of Texas was ninth in 23.22 seconds, just ahead of Neisha Burgher of Texas-El Paso- 23.36 seconds, while Brianna Lyston of Louisiana State made her college debut running 23.54 seconds.
