Man reportedly shot by cop during brawl with higgler
ST MARY, Jamaica — Two men are reportedly nursing injuries they sustained in a brawl in Annotto Bay on Thursday after the subsequent intervention of a member of the police force.
According to OBSERVER ONLINE sources, an off-duty detective went to the Hotspot Restaurant to purchase lunch. Upon entering the establishment, he saw 32-year-old higgler, Ricardo Williams and 19-year-old Marques Hart of Purcell Lane, both from Annotto Bay, engaged in a brawl.
Reports are that Williams had received a stab wound to his right shoulder.
The cop intervened and asked both men to stop fighting. His plea was ignored and it is alleged that Hart continued to stab Williams.
The lawman then pulled his licensed firearm and shot Hart in his left leg. Both men were taken to hospital where they were admitted in stable condition.
The police officer was reportedly relieved of his licensed firearm. The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is expected to launch an investigation.
